Data & Storytelling: A Powerful Combination
Workshop
Hebrew Session
OLIVER TRACE
STORYTELLER & FOUNDER @ sentiospace
Hello. My name is Oliver. I work as a storyteller at sentiospace. My story is that I studied Economics at Bristol University. Did a masters at Cambridge. I then created an animation about cycling through Britain on a tandem bike. We put it onto YouTube. That day a company got in touch to ask if we could tell their story. Haven't looked back. We've told stories for organisations including Tate Britain, BBC, and Cambridge University. I'm looking forward to sharing some insights today, and learning from you, too.
More about
OLIVER TRACE
There's a rising interest in data-driven storytelling. A new generation of journalists are now uncovering and writing stories through access to large sets of data and intuitive data analysis tools. Additionally, content marketers and SEO professionals are also drawing on data to create compelling content such as data-based articles that attract more clicks. All this combined shows a growing interest in data-driven storytelling. In this Jolt session, we'll explore the five core narratives for telling stories with data. We'll take a look at how data can inform trends, such as how twitter is struggling to grow its base of active users. We'll also discuss datasets such as rank order or league tables, which can inform us about countries which have the highest corruption rates. We'll also dive into comparative, counterintuitive, and correlative datasets and explore what they can teach us about the world around us. All in, we'll discuss how to leverage our data to create compelling and impactful stories to inform, inspire, and educate our audiences.
