You know that Facebook has dominated not just the social media space, but digital in general. But do you know why? Big Data feels like this amorphous thing, but really it's about discovering what key attributes your ideal customers share. It's no longer OK to target "Millennial Moms". That's only slightly more targeted than "women". An age and gender are just the beginning. Real targeting takes the shape of all the attributes of your ideal customer. What sports is she a fan of? Which are her favourite books, movies, and celebrities? Which shows does she binge watch on Netflix? If you knew her favourite colour was blue, why would you create ad campaigns in the colour red? The problem is, most companies don't realize the VAST amount of data available on your ideal customer. From re-marketing to look alike audiences, there are more tools than you can possibly need to crack the code on your ideal customer. The days of "spray and pray" are over. There's no excuse for not knowing who your ideal customer is and how to reach her. Once you understand hyper-targeting, you'll never go back to impressions and clicks as your benchmarks for success. Instead, you'll get really curious about who, exactly, is engaging and transacting with you and how to find more of your ideal customers online and in the real world.
